Reciprocal Links..Do They Work?
Posted by stuffbt on February 15, 2007
Hi folks,
Well, I’m trying out reciprocal links on my books, sports, and toys bigtime sites to see if they will drive more traffic to my sites. If they work out for me I’ll probably add reciprocal links to all my sites. I’ll know more in a month or so.
How reciprocal links work.
It’s basically pretty easy stuff. I put a link on my site to another site and they put a link to my site on theirs. I am making sure that the content of their site is similar to mine. In another words, if I’m putting a reciprocal links on my booksbigtime site I make sure the website I’m linking to has something to do with books.
Anyone want to share their experience with reciprocal links?
Like everyone I’m learning as I go and appreciate your feedback. I’ll keep you posted on how it goes.
Thanks, Joel

all depends on what you mean by “Do They Work?”
If you exchange links with quality sites relevant to your own, yes they work as a branding and traffic building function. If you plan to link exchange in an attempt to affect SEO or search rankings somehow, that takes time and I you should not expect overnight results.
Link exchange should be conducted as a traffic building and branding function first and foremost.. if those links affect your SEO or search returns, thats gravy but avoid high volume linking with junk sites. if you focus on quality over quantity, you will have long term success.

Mike, thanks for the feedback.
Currently, my intent is to use reciprocal links for branding and traffic building. A few days ago I signed up with linkmarket.com to manage my reciprocal links on three of my websites. They have a large resource directory and a good tracking software tool to boot. I’ve been asked by a few companies to swap links which is a good start.
I’m being somewhat picky on who I request to swap links with but am also trying to help out the little guy at the same time. I’ve also started doing some SEO but haven’t concentrated on this area as much as I need to.
Like you said, I won’t expect results overnight but I’m convinced that a combination of reciprocal links and SEO will be beneficial in the long run.
Thanks again..
Joel
